I am an inspirational performer, composer and teacher with skills from a professional career in music and theatre. I have a music PGCE and 20 years experience of teaching in Primary and Secondary schools, Music Hubs and giving private lessons for individuals of all ages.

‘Over years playing in jazz, punk, rock and folk bands David has developed a unique playing style specialisng in rhythmic grooves and improvising techniques. Whilst he has a solid grounding in classical music education, if you are looking to widen your horizons and repertoire, he is the teacher for you.’
CREATIVITY AS PART OF THE LEARNING JOURNEY
As a composer and song writer, my inclination is to harness the power of creativity to engage my students in their learning. Whether it be small adjustments in approach to performance, song writing or full scale composition using notation or music technology, many students have found the creative approach can be energising and fun.

As a teaching professional, working in schools and institutions I have kept abreast of the latest teaching and learning research. Advances in neuroscience have been truly impactful for educators in how we define working and long term memory and implement retrieval practice. An awareness of neuro-divergent learning styles has also helped me to understand planning for individual needs. To progress in music and support how students practice, these are essential skills. Guitar, bass and ukelele
I teach most stringed instruments including guitars – electric and acoustic- and ukelele. Lessons cover different styles and techniques such as finger picking, strumming, using a plectrum and playing lead/ solos and melodies. I can also help with learning to read chord charts and guitar tablature as well as some basic music theory to help recognise chord sequences and song structures.
